Main Booze Clues Salami Tsunami

  Kanye West=Douchebag
9/6/2005
In an act of unprecedented stupidity at a benefit concert and telethon for the victims of hurricane Katrina, some guy named Kanye West used one of the worst disasters in U.S. history to espouse his completely thoughtless and baseless political sputum.

In the video, in which Kanye and Mike Myers were supposed to read from a script, Kanye was so nervous he was out of breath when Myers threw to him. That was because he was about to do something he had never done before- tried to sound like he knew the first thing about his own political opinions. He abandoned the script in favor of what I hope is a long and painful career suicide.

I looked the guy up on Google because I was curious to see if he was actually a professional fucktard. Sure enough, I was right-

I'm the last to say that a person isn't entitled to say what they want about another political party, but you'd think that even a democrat would have better taste than to try and politicize something like this. Yes, the irony there was intentional. Stop crying.

After a scripted few sentences from Mike Myers, West opens his festering face hole and says the following-

I hate the way they portray us in the media. You see a black family, it says, "They're looting." You see a white family, it says, "They're looking for food."

I think I actually saw the footage he's talking about, and I remember thinking "this is going to cause a shit storm" when I realized which group was being called what. So through the magic of TiVo, I watched it again. The family with food was looking for food, and the family with a television and a cart full of stereo equipment was looting. For anyone too goddamn stupid to understand this- food and water are necessary to survive. A home theater is not. Unless African Americans switched to a diet of transistors and didn't tell anyone, skin color is irrelevant.

And, you know, it's been five days [waiting for federal help] because most of the people are black. And even for me to complain about it, I would be a hypocrite because I've tried to turn away from the TV because it's too hard to watch.

Or maybe you're a hypocrite for living in your eleven bedroom mansion and not offering ten of those bedrooms to displaced victims. Maybe you're a hypocrite for wearing a suit that is worth more than most of these oppressed people made in the past two years. Maybe you're a hypocrite for wearing that suit while flying in a private jet to a benefit concert where you try to tell the rest of society that the black man's oppression is insurmountable. Maybe not- I personally don't think so. You earned your status, and you are entitled to use it however you want. I think maybe you're a guy who was blessed with enough talent to have all of that stuff and you want to do what you can to help- just like all of the rest of us. White or black, rich or poor, liberal or conservative. The worst thing you can do with your position is use it to turn the focus away from helping these people by trying to assign blame. Nice job.

I've even been shopping before even giving a donation, so now I'm calling my business manager right now to see what is the biggest amount I can give, and just to imagine if I was down there, and those are my people down there. So anybody out there that wants to do anything that we can help -- with the way America is set up to help the poor, the black people, the less well-off, as slow as possible.

I'm about to say something that will piss a lot of people off, so read carefully- America's federal disaster relief system is set up to help everyone -especially the poor- as quickly as possible, but they can't do a damn thing until a state or local authority asks for it. The reason (especially during natural disasters) that it looks like the poor are the worst off is because they are. That's why it's called poor and not awesome.

In almost every city in the nation, the low lying land is the cheapest land because it is prone to things like this. Therefore it is usually populated by the poorest demographic, whatever that may be. The exception to this is government subsidized disaster insurance for people can afford to live in places like California and Florida, which I think is a crime. Rebuilding a 3 million dollar house every two years because it was built on a fault line should be the owner's responsibility, not yours and mine. In any case, most of the wealthy in the area had a means (money, car, whatever) to get out before everything went down- but not all. Some of them waited too long and are now living with everyone else. It's life in the real world.

I mean, the Red Cross is doing everything they can. We already realize a lot of people that could help are at war right now, fighting another way -- and they've given them permission to go down and shoot us!

Bull. Shit. You. Ignorant. Douchebag.

No one has given anyone permission to shoot "you". If someone breaks into someone else's house or place of business in this situation, they should know there is a risk of being killed. Nothing necessary for survival will be found in a house that has been underwater for a week or a store that has long since been stripped of food and water. If Barbara Bush's insensitive comments (which implied that the homeless are better off in the astrodome) got plastered all over the internet in a matter of seconds, I'm reasonably sure that a D-list rapper would not be the only one privileged to an executive order to freely murder people because they were black.

Then a confused Mike Myers tries to salvage the situation and does a crappy job of not just knocking this guy out to make him shut up-

Myers: And subtle, but in many ways even more profoundly devastating, is the lasting damage to the survivors' will to rebuild and remain in the area. The destruction of the spirit of the people of southern Louisiana and Mississippi may end up being the most tragic loss of all.

During all of this, the only mildly amusing part is that Mike Myers, who is an excellent improvisational comedian, was dumbstruck. Yet for some reason, he hands the mike back to captain jackass, who utters this astoundingly uninspired parting shot-

George Bush doesn't care about black people!

That must be why his cabinet is chock full of them. Maybe you don't identify with educated black people, but they are still black.

Try shutting the hell up and observing reality if you want the truth. If you don't like the truth, quit bitching and do whatever you can to change it. If mistakes were made in the process of delivering aid (and I believe they were), now is not the time to point fingers. Now is the part where we are supposed to help each other out. So now I'm going to follow my own advice and quit bitching...

Dusty, I've read both of your blogs for quite some time, but have never come out of "lurker" status until now. I just wanted to say that I really appreciate you articulating what I so often feel (in regards to politics at least) but cannot seem to express. I posted a link to this from my livejournal (which about 4 people read, heh), hope you don't mind.

As much as I think Kanye's comments were ignorant, poorly articulated, based on little to no actual fact, and just downright inappropriate, I cannot agree that there is not a valid argument that he somehow failed to make. After hearing Nagin's interview on WWL pleading for assistance (check it out here: http://www.atypical.net/mm/nagin.mp3), and reading factually upheld timelines of the events that occurred (such as this one: http://www.thinkprogress.org/katrina-timeline), it is hard to place the majority of responsibility on the local administration.

If a President can initiate legislation regarding the institution of marriage, a power that is explicitly granted in our American Constitution to the State Legislatures, I believe that President should show the same disregard for bureaucratic red-tape when faced with a disaster of this magnitude.

Rock on Dusty.

Dusty - you said it perfectly, as usual....the point that the democrap whiners all seem to intentionally overlook is that in any city or state, if a KNOWN situation exists which poses a danger - whether geographical elevation, fault lines, shark attacks or a propensity for meteor strikes - the mayor of the city and governor of the state are SUPPOSED to have enough brains to have emergency procedures in place...not to sit on their asses and when their incompetence costs lives, flick their limp wrists toward Washington and say, 'Eeeew, it wasn't OUR fault, it was that mean President!" And of course the media did not want to mention the lethal incompetence of the democrap mayor and governor..so let's blame Bush. Excuse me, but I believe that the state of the levees, and the 'below sea level' status of New Orleans were well known before Mr. Bush was ever involved in politics; and the records remind us that the parishes of NO had received some 60 million dollars in fed money, years ago, to fix the levees...but they pissed it away. Hey - that's the democrap government of Louisiana for ya.
On the 'race thing', you know those armed thugs shooting at rescue workers, medical teams and fire/rescue teams? Raping and knifing people in the superdome? Stealing food from the weaker ones? Taking things from the bodies of the dead?
I forget...weren't all those thugs with the AKs and stolen shotguns, ah, Norwegians? I thought so.
And about Pisshead West - As has been said before - no one is lower on the scale of scumbaggery than the ones who use the bodies of the dead as soapboxes to spew their mindless drivel, whether they are typical democrap politicians or minimally talented wannabe 'artistes'.
Rock on, Dusty.

Well, to be frank, West's vernacular was a little, shall we say, confused to me as I watched this on an internet page, so I started to empathise with some of what he said.

Being ignorant is my fault there. I apologise - and Thank You Dusty for correcting me. You are now my Google News.

As with what Schoey said, I think this is going to cause a completely misdirected shit storm and most people will be missing the point, which is that the dumb-ass should have shut the hell up and Myers should have shot him down in a moment.

Maybe he knows something we don't. I doubt it.

Just goes to show how hard improv can be sometimes...

Kayne West is an idiot for not realizing it is a class war and not a race war. It is not black people that dubya doesn't care about, it's poor people that he doesn't care about. His base is the wealthy elite and anyone he can convince through hypocritical rhetoric and scare tactics to vote against thier own economic self interest. His economic policy has been one of unparalleled tax givaways on the apparent assumption that we will not need various federal programs and that the U.S. will never suffer another rainy day (or at least it will be during somone elses administration and therefore not his problem). Well tough luck. That rainy day came sooner rather than later and have shown just what a disaster the Bush administrations policies have been.
Mike Estridge said...
RE: Vincent's post

It would seem that Vincent may have not actually read the article, or missed the point(s) of most of the other people posting...none of it was about Bush. Not about trying to scapegoat people who were not responsible in the first place for the safety of the city of New Orleans. It was about the whimpering Democrat elected officials there, refusing to accept responsibility for their utter and inexcusable failure to safeguard the people of that area, namely, the Governor and the Mayor. There is a post above by someone named Galt which also sums it up pretty well.
Bush is not the governor, mayor, or head of any Louisiana governmental department. He was not elected to watch over Louisiana so that the Gov and the Mayor could sit around with their thumbs up their, um, noses, counting their bribes and kickbacks and never caring about the people who put them in office.
And we didn't hear people over the last couple of years sobbing about 'Bush' when hurricanes hit Florida, Alabama and Mississippi. That is because their governors and officials managed to take time out, notice what was happening and decide to evacuate their citizens from harm's way. They already had evacuation routes and procedures in place long before disaster ever hit...'planning', I think they call it. It's a shame the Democrats in office in Louisiana seem to lack that kind of intellect.
But hey, at least they know how to cry and curse and blame everyone else on camera - that must have saved a lotta lives!

Celebrity puts microphones in the mouths of idiots.

Regardless of what color people President Bush likes or dislikes, almost EVERYBODY hates an ignoramus.

There's enough blame to go around here, but consider this; the direct damage from Katrina was bad, but not catastrophic. Most everybody who rode out the storm came out fine and New Orleans was relatively dry. The levees breaking was the unexpected trump card that Mother Nature had up her sleeve. NOBODY, from individuals on up to Bush expected that (though a few prescient individuals had called it).

http://www.popsci.com/popsci/science/22040b4511b84010vgnvcm1000004eecbccdrcrd.html

This wasn't an event that had an immediate call to action. This was a bad thing that continued to slowly slide to worse and then worse again. The hurricane itself was long gone before everyone knew how bad it was. (not that we really know now)

At what point does the possibility of a cataclysmic event override the meager odds of it happening in a given year? Why were the levees allowed to remain so knowingly insufficient? Funds? Poor understanding of statistics? Human nature?

No excuses from here on out though. The worst natural disaster in the history of the United States has happened/is happening/ and will continue to be a BIG FRIGGIN' MESS for months and possibly years
to come. Just because "The Big One" only hits California once every 10,000 years doesn't mean it can't happen tomorrow. To paraphrase the state lotto "Some year has to win!"

My sister evacuated her family, 4 dogs and 2 cats from Slidell (Just north of New Orleans) and came back to find 60 ft. trees crushing their home. She's a lucky one.

"Poor and not AWESOME" was suhhhhweeeet...

Thats what you're really angry about. Kanye should have said Bush doesn't care about white paople either because its true. The great thing about this country is that we have free speech!

The hard core truth really makes people angry. When someone speaks it people can't handle it. You all are full of it. The only reason you are angry about Kanye's comments is because you know it's obviously true. Lets be real here. Bush does not care about anyone but himself and his wealthy friends. But I guess being in denial makes you all feel better about the fact you voted for your good ole boy that could care less about you. And Americans wonder why other countries think they are so stupid.

Hey, fat white man named "Dusty", Kanye West is not a hypocrite, he's not a D-List rapper (which I trust a D-List blogger should be capable of recognizing), and he certainly did NOT end his career with his statements. Perhaps George Bush doesn't not care about black people, but he definitely DOES not care about people, you know, humanity? Kanye West says with his music and his ineloquent public statements things that educated, intelligent minorities across America feel, believe, and even say; only in an infinitely more righteous way. After all the racism I endured and let go of upon moving out of Southern New Jersey and into Princeton, New Jersey, I picked up some of my own: there are some fucking white people that will never get their shiz together, man up, and take responsibility for their OWN stupid politicians, stupid blame-slinging, and stupid stupid stupid naming of blacks who work for Bush as "educated". Where I come from (two parents with PhD's and the number one high school in NJ), "educated" does NOT equate "brainwashed by fat white ignorami to carry out the ways of the majestic, bedsheet-sporting forefathers of douchebag gimmicks". You seem {blatantly} to be bitching more than making any kind of relevent social commentary, and I bet you're the kind of bitch that specifically doesn't like other bitches, right? You're more intelligent than they are, right? Lemme guess, that's why you're on the ever-prestegious blogger...so that 40 or so other fat white BITCHES who can't take it continue to dish it. Man the fuck up, bitch.

Also, ain't no way in hell YOU care about people in NOLA, and if you gave money to the Red Cross, I should inform you of your official accentance into the Hall of Most Sanctimonious Blogging Fudgepackers. Money will never save the descendents of those whom your people (fat, white, meat-chomping bastards) work/worked ever so diligently to annihilate. Kanye West was merely, and brilliantly pointing that out.

Fat white bitches. Eesh.

I understand the greatness of anger, and as someone who is better than everyone else it is my place to share my infinite knowledge and wisdom. None of this argument was/is about proving a valid point about racism (besides the fact that everyone invariably is), but rather about evoking and enraging. I hope I made you angry, because Dusty and (now) you made me angry. Every moment of anger is a moment closer to righteousness. Let's pay it forward, whiteys.

it's incredible, the way even an abstract concept such as satire needs to be broken down, defined, and even symbolized to the point of "brands". isn't literature all about seeing humor from angles which were never before explored? true, successful satire, like pure, unracist minds, does not exist. in any case, if you must know, i was mocking the failed attempts at satire by all you various decryers of idiocy. there is no way to prove someone is not racist, to attempt to do so on top of superficial lampooning makes self-righteous never-winners-in-life.

okay, first of all: when i typed "there" i meant "their". that was stupid. i apologize. second of all, i don't need to sit and justify my brand of satire by shouting out "people do laugh at what i say!". i avoid satire as it's almost difficult not to use. in my experience, most people who consider themselves brilliantly sarcastic are those who aren't in fact as knowledgeable as they percieve, and those who have nothing truly righteous to say. truth and intelligence can never come through satire, particularly satire that is funny. i must say, however, i did consider you more intelligent and funnier than most "sarcastic" people i know, dusty, but it seems that having blind worshippers hasn't allowed you to explore the depths of your capacity, and that't tragic.

Dusty, you couldn't make me laugh any harder if I was laughing really hard and you were making me do it. Well said. As usual.

So here is my beef with all of this... When the Dixie Chicks talked smack about Bush they were shunned and radio stations wouldn't play their music, I am still hearing this douche on the radio and I heard yesterday he has still agreed to sing for the NFL. Why is this still an option for him?

Am I the only person who never heard of Kayne West before this fucktard made his comments? It is funny that the biggest boost to ones career is to say stupid shit.

"I'm about to say something that will piss a lot of people off, so read carefully- America's federal disaster relief system is set up to help everyone -especially the poor- as quickly as possible, but they can't do a damn thing until a state or local authority asks for it. The reason (especially during natural disasters) that it looks like the poor are the worst off is because they are. That's why it's called poor and not awesome."

I'm glad to know there are still some smart people out there. Kanye West pissed me off long before this...

I don't like his music. But, West has huge balls for standing up and verbally bitch slapping Bush. Dubya is the real fucktard in all of this. Bush didn't act fast enough. As for the looting story, you must not have seen the correct pictures/captions: click

Read it again- the federal governemt can't act until asked to. Once asked, FEMA had aid there in hours. I know it is en vogue to blame the Bush administration every time someone catches a cold, but sometimes you have to snap back to reality.

NO's mayor turned down help, realized it was baaaad, and bitched to the media about not having any help for his city.

It looked like Mike Meyers wiped a tear from his eye during the West rant, or did I imagine that?

The funny thing is, somejackass, somewhere, agrees with Kanye West. As Mike watched him, someone was cheering him on.
This is why I'd rather live in France.
What a jackass.

Yes, thank you!!

Absolutely. It couldn't have been said better.

This is great.

Ha! I couldn't agree with you less and with Kanye more, but you STILL made me laugh.

I am completely amazed by people on a daily basis. How this man made it past the "Man" to get his ignorant ass televised in the first place sumbfounds me...

Although, P-Diddy (that's his current name right??), was telling everyone - "Vote or DIE!"

So I say, fuck morons, go to work every day like usual, drink beer & donate time or money as you're capable.

I agree that Kanye is a moron. However, the captions he was referring to were both of people with food, but the black kid looted the food and the white couple found the food. And the jackass who wrote the caption tried to defend his stance. I'm glad Brown is gone. He should go back to judging Arabian horses, oh, he got fired from that job. Keep up the good work, Dusty.

Re: Anonymous commenter #23 (the one who referenced the Salon page that Norton wouldn't let open, oh well): Perhaps this will help clear the "looting" vs. "finding" issue for you http://www.snopes.com/photos/katrina/looters.asp

Have to say I agree with you. Another great blog on the whole situation is at http://www.ejectejecteject.com/archives/000129.html
This guy is from LA I think! but I can relate with him and have done what a sheapdog does. You'll have to read the blog to know what I am talking about. It is a great read as well. Keep it coming Dusty!

Dusty:

Please marry me.

I hope you become bigger than Hannity or so and so or someone else. You need to be a public figure. You RULE

Well, I do think Kanye should have thought about what he said more. But he's right. That's why you all became so angry. Otherwise you would just laugh it off and get over it. But as i read the comments I realize that you're not mad at Kanye's comment. You're mad because its obvious that this government only cares about the rich.Everyone knows now!

Eesh.

Neeraj - you're obviously bright and impassioned... What a shame you lose all credibility by arguing against racism(good) then, in the same breath, engaging in it(bad). You don't need to hate white people. We're not your enemy. Hell, you might even find some pigment-challenged allies if you didn't alienate us with your racist remarks, name calling and general hate. Don't be a hater. DEBATE don't argue. Its the difference between intellect and idiocy.

This post has been removed by the author.

nathan - I don't hate white people because they're white. I hate white people because they're people, which is also the reason I hate all people. You don't like all people either, otherwise you'd be friends with every person you've ever met in your life, but I know you're not.

By the by, it's my experience that those who can determine the difference between intellect and idiocy can (correctly!) spell a typed name to which he/she responds. Also, I'm from NJ - about 73% of my "allies" are white.

Read this and then tell me he's racist, Neejajaraha. http://porktornado.diaryland.com/markcross.html You're a fucking idiot just like Kanye, and it is idiocy he and most other people hate, not skin color.

you people couldn't recognize satire if I hurled a hardcover copy of Voltaire at your heads. you, anonymous, know nothing about racism, race, kanye west, or "fucking idiots"...and I can easily discern that your existance is a waste of time and space. you probably run with your backpack on and will never win in life.

Oh...it was satire...I see. I guess having a brand of satire so unique that no one in the world finds it funny is...something. Congrats on that, you big winner you.

it's incredible, the way even an abstract concept such as satire needs to be broken down, defined, and even symbolized to the point of "brands". isn't literature all about seeing humor from angles which were never before
